BEVERLEY CAR AND CYCLES
In my last post I said about being knocked off my bike. well I wheeled the bike in to Beverley car and cycles
and these guys were very sympathetic and helpful. They obviously witness this event a number of times.
They gave me a full quote to repair the bike which was pretty expensive which is what I decided to go for a newer better bike, surely this was going to make me a better cyclist (all the gear no idea)
The guys have a vast knowledge of all types of bikes and what my needs were. I had only previously been in to get a new chain fitted as mine had rusted in the beautiful British weather. All I had to do is buy the chain and they fitted it for free! I was over the moon with this, what great service.
So anyway I had my new bike which I was delighted with, I was now a Tour de France rider!
Even the after service was great, they told me to take the bike back in after 6 weeks and they would give it a service which I did and they tightened a few things and it felt great! (tight is a better word)
I highly recommend popping in to see these guys and their gear as there is plenty of it!

Casual cycling turning serious
I have been cycling now for 6 months as a commute from Beverley to work which is 15 miles a day.
I love it!!! Addicted is the only word! If I have to take the car for a meeting I hate it! The traffic, the god awful drivers. In fact it takes longer in the car than the bicycle by the time you have stopped at traffic lights, cued in rush hour traffic and generally get stuck behind ditherers doing 20mph the entire route!
As the months progressed I have found my fitness increasing, my weight decreasing and my muscle getting bigger (unless its just the fat has disappeared and i can now see them) I have now lost 2 stone since xmas.
I did get knocked off at the beginning of February which set me back for a couple of weeks with a few nasty skin grazes and bad ankle and leg, but i got a new better faster bike and got on it! ive never looked back.
I now average 15-18mph on the commute which is a fairly good pace for a hybrid bike. I am tempted for a road race style bike as over the months have slowly slipped into the tight Lycra gear which I bought month by month off eBay and transformed me into a keen looking cyclist. I actually look like I might know what I am doing now. Anyway ill get to the point.
I am going to start cycling weekends for leisure with a couple friends who are also beginners. If anyone knows of any casual bike clubs in the Beverley area that are not too hardcore please let me know or if you would like to join us for some fun then please drop me a comment.
